King Abdullah Reef is one of Aqaba's healthiest and most beloved house reefs, named in honour of His Majesty King Abdullah II. A gently sloping wall of hard and soft coral, it is famous for frequent sea-turtle encounters and easy, rewarding diving.
The story of King Abdullah Reef
The reef has been a focus of Jordan's marine-conservation efforts, including regular reef clean-ups and monitoring, which has helped keep its coral cover vibrant. That care shows in the density of life and the regular appearance of larger animals.
Marine life & what you'll see
Turtles are the headline act here, often seen grazing on the slope or resting under coral ledges, but they share the reef with schooling fusiliers, butterflyfish, parrotfish and the occasional reef shark in the deeper blue. The soft-coral overhangs glow with colour and shelter glassfish and lionfish.

Running from about 5 to 25 metres, King Abdullah Reef suits every level. Beginners stay shallow along the top of the slope, while more experienced divers follow the wall deeper in search of turtles and bigger fish. It is easily reached from shore and boat in typically calm, clear water.

Diving conditions & best time
Aqaba offers some of the calmest, most accessible diving in the Red Sea, and King Abdullah Reef is no exception. Water temperatures stay comfortable year-round, from about 21°C in winter to 27°C in summer, and visibility commonly runs 15–40 metres. King Abdullah Reef is a shore & boat dive, so it can be enjoyed across most of the year; the calm gulf rarely sees big swell, and we dive it in small guided groups with all equipment available.
