Rainbow Reef is an easily navigable reef that truly comes alive after dark, making it one of Aqaba's favourite night dives — though it is just as rewarding by day, when its corals and fish live up to the colourful name.

The story of Rainbow Reef

Its simple, forgiving layout — a clear reef line that is hard to get lost on — is exactly what makes Rainbow Reef such a popular choice for night diving, where easy navigation matters most. Over the years it has become the go-to site for divers experiencing the reef after sunset.

Marine life & what you'll see

By day you will see the full reef palette: parrotfish, angelfish, wrasse and anthias over healthy hard and soft coral. At night the reef changes shift entirely — Spanish dancers, basket stars, hunting lionfish, sleeping parrotfish in their mucus cocoons, and crustaceans emerging to feed under your torch beam.

Diving Rainbow Reef

Running from roughly 5 to 20 metres with gentle conditions, Rainbow Reef suits all certified levels and is an excellent choice for a first night dive. Easy access and straightforward navigation let you focus on the marine life rather than the map.

Diving conditions & best time

Aqaba offers some of the calmest, most accessible diving in the Red Sea, and Rainbow Reef is no exception. Water temperatures stay comfortable year-round, from about 21°C in winter to 27°C in summer, and visibility commonly runs 15–40 metres. Rainbow Reef is a shore & boat dive, so it can be enjoyed across most of the year; the calm gulf rarely sees big swell, and we dive it in small guided groups with all equipment available.
